Issue query mount, if there are mounted volumes with a status of idle, use
the the dismount volume command for the idle drive and retry the operation.

Check if paths are online. Check your devices at the OS level to see if
they
are available, as opposed to defined.

Drives are online both in TSM and AIX....no indication of them having any
problems. When backups start I get the above error.
