Our site keeps all logs from all systems for five years, using HSM to make it realistic. It is common to have many storage pool tapes which were last written four or five years ago, and you may want to review what happened in creating a tape back then, when you have problems with that tape or its contents now. And your auditors or statutory requirements may call for goodly retention of such records. (The decision on how long to retain logs is not one which the technician is best qualified to make.)
