As far as I know they either won't install and if they install they won't work, 
because of the discrepancy between the driver and the kernel version (yes, it 
will check on which kernel it is running). The only solution is to upgrade the 
kernel to the driver level.

I need to upgrade the IBMtape drivers on my RHEL3 system to support my
3592 drives.

I know that the drivers are kernel dependent and that the kernel level can
not be ahead of the level supported by the drivers.

Is there any issue with installing drivers ahead of the kernel level ?
