Subject: [ADSM-L] SV: Hardware Info for IBM xSeries

Hi Steve,
Why do you even want all this information?
Is it because in a case of disaster?
Why not recommend a BMR a tool for user customer? IBM got BMR tools that work
with TSM and when a disaster happened you really don't need to know anything
about your old hardware. You can restore your xSeries box to another xSeries or
to HP or even to a Virtual Environment direct from your TSM Server storage pool
(include copy pool)

Thanks
Christian

Ämne: Hardware Info for IBM xSeries

Hi all

I'm trying to develop some scripts for a customer who uses windows on IBM
xSeries gear exclusively. The idea is to extract as much useful information as
possible from system sources and generate INSERT MACHINE commands to add this
into DRM. I can get most of what I need from the output of the srvinfo tool
from the windows 2003 resource kit, but that only sees things from a windows
perspective.

What I'd really like is something that can query the hardware to get exact
hardware information eg number and type of physical CPUs and amount of memory
installed, exact IBM model and serial numbers, SCSI controller and physical
drive details, all of which may be hidden from the OS.

Is anyone aware of such a tool? I realize that IBM Director can do a lot of
this, but this client doesn't use any enterprise monitoring suite now, and
won't countenance a Director install.

Regards

Steve
