If you're really really sure you don't need the data, you can issue "delete volume vol_name discarddata=yes" But, make your boss sign a guarantee that you won't lose your job if someone decides later that they need the data.

Deleting them is not a good idea as you are destroying your backup data if you do. Are you running reclamation on your storage pools?
