Hi Richard It is for DR testing, but i take your point with changing the nodename in the dsm.opt file.
This is the output i am seeing - the virtualnodename made no difference. It is true what it is saying, this node (SO03DRT02) never did backup data for the other node (RESTNODE). I've tested this on a test client and i can only see a restore via DSMC after i have actually performed a backup. It could'nt see a restore object. However, via the GUI, it was happy to restore the other nodes' data. Note at the end of the output, it is quite happy for me to do a 'q filespace' for the node i want to restore - it asks for the id and password - and indeed the 'E' filespace is there. Instead, use the VIRTUALNodename option, which is intended for cross-node work, specified on the command line. See the client manual for info on cross-node restorals ("Restoring or retrieving files from another client node"). Specify the restoral as: Restore e:\* f: -subdir=yes -tapeprompt=no -quiet - virtualnodename=whatever I always recommend that rather than launching right into the restoral attempt that a Query Backup first be done using the same general specifications, to verify overall correctness, as in: dsmc query backup e:\* -subdir=yes -virtualnodename=whatever If you encounter the ANS1084E, do dsmc query filespace virtualnodename=whatever to verify the filespace identity.
