That's an awfully vague question, without details. If you're the TSM server administrator, you should not be contemplating the selective deletion of client-owned data: it should be expiring naturally, according to the retention policies that were decided when the data was entrusted to TSM. Client data belongs to clients, not the TSM administrator. Procedures on the client side can result in the removal of TSM storage pool data, such as in TDP data removal tasks (e.g., RMAN) or the decision to remove some ordinary B/A stored data via 'dsmc expire' and 'dsmc delete backup'; or, most severely, via 'dsmc delete filespace'. The respective manuals provide information on handling. Emptied tapes are subject to re-use as described in the Administration Guide manual, according to Reusedelay and whether they were Scratch volumes or assigned to storage pools via DEFine Volume.
