Mark, You're correct that there is only an element number in one place. However, there should be paths defined (on the library manager server) as follows:
one path to the library for the library manager server one path to each drive for each library manager client and the server I suspect that all these paths are not defined, or not defined correctly. The data flows from the library client server directly to the tape drive, as determined by the paths you have defined for that tape drive and server (defined on the library manager server). Device "tape4" on one system may not refer to the same physical tape drive as "tape4" on another system. Basically, the library manager server is mounting the tape on a drive, then telling the library client server that it's mounted, but the library client server is looking for it on a different drive. ..Paul At 12:33 PM 10/2/2008, Mark Stapleton wrote:

There are no drive definitions for the "remote" library in the library client, and therefore no element numbers or paths to check. There is a path in the library manager that connects each of the tape drives to the library client, and as I mentioned there is obviously some communication going on. Here's another question that has been asked... When a library client sends migrated data from disk to a tape drive managed by a library manager, does the data flow on fiber from the client to the tape drive directly, or does it flow across the LAN from the client to the manager, and then on fiber from the manager to the tape drive? -- Mark Stapleton ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) CDW Berbee System engineer 7145 Boone Avenue North, Suite 140 Brooklyn Park MN 55428-1511 763-592-5963 www.berbee.com
