Adrian, We mostly use collocation by group for this issue, but we have upon occasion done as you suggest and have run a selective to consolidate a particular client's data. We have also renamed filespaces which forces a "full" incremental. When we do this, we include the date (as in \\mynode\c$_20090205) so we can look back after a couple of months and discard the old filespace.

Richard, I'm mainly concerned about the Offsite volumes. We have a small library (IBM 3583) and a limited budget, so I was hoping for a simple work-around to this issue. Never mind - I guess we'll just have to live with it. Adrian - The key word "collocation" does not appear in your question. That's the architectural solution to keeping related data together. Collocation is conventionally used for onsite volumes, but not for offsite volumes, given the substantial tape management complications that would occur with partially filled volumes: offsite volumes are usually not collocated, for that reason - but could be.
