If you have 5.5 server now, look in the admin ref, Server Utilities chapter, for the command dsmserv display dbbackupvolume.
It will let you quickly mount the tapes and tell you whether one of them is a DB backup. That command was available in 5.3 & 5.4, don't know about 5.2.
