Adrian Without knowing more about your environment, it's difficult to answer what is best for you.
Separating the pools by data retention does have it's advantages, one of which is that reclamation could be more efficient. However you are going to end up using more tape media overall. As for the Disk / tape HBA split, it is recommended that they are. I've not personally seen any issues relating to this, but there are people on here that have if memory serves. IBM would also recommend this if you called them up. One for normal type retention, one for monthly, and one for yearly. The though process behind it was that similar type retention data i.e monthly schedules are moved to monthly copy pools etc. Am iwrong in doing this. If I keep them all in one copy poll, is this better, and are there performance/amount of tapes used issues that I will experience. I find my offsite's create process are taking forever. I use a TS3310 Tape Library with 6 LTO3 FC drives, on TSm 5.5.4 on AIX 5.3 IBMp570 LPAR. We have also not split FC tape data and SAN traffic and both are over the same HBA. Thanks in advance. tsm: TSM-PLZ>q stg Storage Device Estimated Pct Pct High Low Next Stora- Pool Name Class Name Capacity Util Migr Mig Mig ge Pool Pct Pct ----------- ---------- ---------- ----- ----- ---- --- ----------- ARCHPOOL LTO3310DE- 7,089 G 3.0 40.0 90 70 VCL DISKPOOL DISK 1,501 G 66.1 66.1 98 70 OVERFLOW DISKPOOL1 DISK 1,500 G 85.2 85.2 98 70 OVERFLOW INFORMIXMO- LTO3310DE- 26,084 G 9.7 15.0 90 70 NTH VCL INFORMIXUN- LTO3310DE- 0.0 M 0.0 0.0 90 70 LIMITED VCL INFORMIXWE- LTO3310DE- 90,061 G 17.4 24.0 90 70 EKLY VCL INFORMIXYE- LTO3310DE- 8,192 G 3.1 10.0 90 70 ARLY VCL LEGACY LTO3310DE- 0.0 M 0.0 0.0 90 70 VCL MONTHPOOL LTO3310DE- 28,750 G 42.8 56.0 90 70 VCL OFFSITE_33- LTO3310DE- 308,130 G 17.9 10 VCL OFFSITE_MO- LTO3310DE- 70,410 G 21.1 NTHLY VCL OFFSITE_YE- LTO3310DE- 81,920 G 0.5 ARLY VCL OVERFLOW LTO3310DE- 73,675 G 20.2 28.0 90 70 VCL TAPEPOOL LTO3310DE- 111,220 G 21.7 32.5 90 70 VCL YEARPOOL LTO3310DE- 16,384 G 0.7 5.0 90 70 VCL Regards Adrian Compton Group IT Infrastructure Pharmacare Limited trading as Aspen Pharmacare P O Box 4002 Korsten Port Elizabeth 6014 Switchboard Tel No: +27 (0) 41 407 2111 Tel No: +27 (0) 41 407 2855 Fax: +27 (0) 41 453 7452 Cell: +27 (0) 82 861 7745 No trees were killed in the sending of this message.
