Tim, Assuming the dsmsched.log extracts are not heavily edited, it looks like you only back up C:? If so, then this kind of elapsed time is typically due to the time it takes for the TSM server to send the current active backup inventory back to the TSM client before the client starts traversing the file system. The most likely cause is a large number of objects (tens of millions) coupled with a busy TSM server or network. Another possibility is a TSM client TCPWINDOWSIZE that is larger than the default value (which happens to be 63), which can severely impact the time it takes for the client to read data sent by the server if the client machine and network are not enabled for large TCP window size support (e.g., RFC 1323).
