Great info Andy. What version did this approach start with, as in the past I have been experienced that when our security department changes ACLS (Win) on a file server TSM historically has re-backed up all files associated with the change, but I haven't checked it in some time to see if it still happens.

Just to clarify: - When a file is backed up, it's "simple" or "basic" attributes are backed up with that file. - During incremental backup, if only the basic attributes change, then the entire file is not backed up again. Rather, just the attributes are updated for the active backup version. The attributes for older backup versions are not changed. - This behavior applies not only to Unix and Linux, but to Windows as well.
