Tim, Is the session still active on the TSM server or did it mention a failed?
It could be something is hanging up your VSS backup. WMI is one of the usual suspects in that. Have you tried to look at the status of the VSS writers (open command prompt with elevated privileges, and run vssadmin list writers Is there are any in an error state or a waiting for post snapshot state, this might be your issue preventing a successfull backup.
