Chasing enlightenment can only result in suffering. Suffering upon suffering equates misery. I can relate to what U.G.K. said as the seeker will normally start off from a point of 'wanting to achieve something (enlightenment) that someone else (the Guru) has but he (the seeker) still has not got it and wants is badly (to feel superior or different) from everyone else. Enlightenment is seen as something to 'add' on the existent personality rather than 'diminish' the power of the ego.
