Hi all, I have been going through the lots of Com Interop mails that have been floating in this group and other groups.
I also went through the book by Dan Appleman. I have a basic question here. If I have a three-tier application, and I plan to convert the same into .NET, should I follow: 1. The client conversion first, to work with existing COM business and data layer. After this is done successfully, then go on with the business layer and then the data layer. 2. Start with the business/data( or both ) layer and let the client be independent of this kind of a shift. After the client is working successfully, then go ahead and change the client. The advantages in the 2nd approach is that , the client interface in .NET will change in the look and feel of it and so, this way you are not letting your client using the user interface layer, feel the effort/burden of the change to .NET. only when you are fully confident of this approach, then you can think of letting the User Interface also change. The advantage with the 1st approach is that, you are happy with the performance of your business/data layer, and only when you have seen the success of the User Interface working successfully , with the existing COM business/data layer, do you plan to go in for further migration. While I have said about ,each method, I am unable to decide, which point should be scoring above the other???? Any pointers on the above or any kind of negation/further explanation of my approach above would be highly appreciable.
