I vaguely remember some issues where the account you're running under ( i.e. the one that accesses the WebService) needs write access to the configured temp folder, where the XmlSerializer stores temporary assemblies used by for marshalling and unmarshalling the SOAP messages.
Check groups.google.com for the error message for some possible solutions.
