The SqlClient ADO.NET provider that supports bulk insert operations is
actually part of Whidbey, but you probably don't want to use an alpha
provider in a production app. You would need .NET 1.2 from the PDC CDs.
Don't think its on MSDN, but MSDN (universal only or all subscribers?)
can order it.

There are quite a few ways to insert rows quickly into SQL Server,
including IRowsetFastLoad (OLE DB), DTS, SQL BULK INSERT statement,
INSERT INTO EXEC or INSERT INTO SELECT (SQL), and BCP utility. There is
an API in ODBC or DBLIB that encapsulates BCP. However, none of these
are ADO.NET native solutions, though you could build wrappers.

There's been quite a lot of traffic about this very problem on the CLR
(and/or this Advanced?) maillist, you might also have a go at the
archives.

Subject: [ADVANCED-DOTNET] SQL Server bulk copy operation...

.NETters,

I need to pump huge number of records into a SQL Server database. The
default SQL Server ADO .NET connector doesn't seem to support any bulk
copy
operations. I am wondering if I simply overlooked something or if there
is a
newer SQL Server ADO .NET connector that can be downloaded.

I see that the new ADO .NET connector under Longhorn supports bulk data
operations. Is this connector available for download somewhere?

Thank you in advance for your help.
