You cannot set the file and folder permissions using built-in
functionality of Windows Installer, nor target specific websites.

What you have to do, is create custom actions, and have those be called
during the installations process. Then you may set the ACLs on the
folders you want and target a specific website.

Sorry I can't be of more help on this, I can't remember exactly what I
did right now and I don't have any code to show you because the code I
wrote belongs to my old employer. I can tell you that you must use
P/Invoke or Active Directory through COM Interop to set permissions, as
.NET doesn't support it.

As for targeting a specific website, you can use Active Directory using
the same methods as specified in this link:
http://www.dotnet247.com/247reference/msgs/41/205724.aspx, or you can
run a script from the installer ahead of time that creates the website
and then you may target that website. I believe this article describes
the second method, and may have enough information for you:

in-other-Websites-besides-the-Default-Website%0A

Hope that gets you started....

Subject: [ADVANCED-DOTNET] Vs.Net Windows Installer: Set install created
directory permissions

I would like to create a directory and set its permissions from the
VS.Net
Installer. Is this possible?

What are the steps required to use the Windows Installer v2.0 at the
time
of the install:
1. To create a new directory (e.g. temp, below the application
installation
root of a web app).
2. Set permissions on that folder.

ALSO: I've read before at this forum that it's not possible in the
VS.Net
Windows Installer to target, in IIS, a specific website for application
installation (when multiple websites exist). Is this true??
