Thank you for responding to my posting. I thought it was enough that IIS would always listen on the loopback address at 127.0.0.1. After your message, I looked at IPConfig and added that IP explicitly (Default Web Site Properties, Web Site, IP Addresses) and then restarted IIS. I still have the same problem.
I might add that I had previously had McAfee firewall installed. But I uninstalled it and reinstalled IIS, so that shouldn't be a problem. -----Original Message----- From: Moderated discussion of advanced .NET topics. In the process thereof, I have XP PRO running on a notebook computer. When I try to view "http://localhost/localstart.asp" or even any .htm file in "c:\Inetpub\wwwroot" I get a "Cannot find server or DNS Error" message in IE. Here's what I've checked so far: 1) IIS is installed and the IIS MMC says that the default web site is running. 2) I can ping "localhost" and that works. 3) Restarting IIS doesn't help. 4) I reinstalled IIS, that didn't make any difference. 5) I didn't see any applicable events in the event viewers. Any suggestions? =================================== This list is hosted by DevelopMentorR http://www.develop.com Some .NET courses you may be interested in: NEW!
