I believe you misunderstood what I was saying ---

I understood from your earlier post that it would work when called as a
webservice from some other page but not on the webservice test page (which
should be disabled by default anyway in asp.net 1.1)

True!  Altough a bit difficult to distinguish... how would you propose to
determine that you're running under the test page?

But the main problem is....I would like to avoid having different code for
development/production at all costs!   I would rather parse the raw URL :-)
