Shawn, they are not worth it.

They are worth it only if you believe in a opy7Paste DAL and are not using
some sort of code generator like codesmith.

Because:

* If you use a smart DAL (like most O/R Mappers do) that is configured and
not copied7pasted for every new class, then basically there is nothing to be
gained by the DAAB. Our EntityBroker has exactly three classes dealing with
all SQL for all business objects - not much that can be saved, and the DAAB
is - as you said - a little "too smart" for it's own good.
* If you use a generated DAL for somehting like codesmith, there is no need
to have another external module of dubious quality.

Only if you basically make the classical MS style DAL (which I call the
stupic copy/paste style) is there something to be gained from the DAAB, but
then the design decisions in it make it not too easy to deal with it at
times. But it DOES cut down the LOC count you have to manually handle.
