As I understood it this is a feature/flaw of Win32: an executable's
platform is either Win32 Windows or Win32 console (or POSIX, etc), so
the choice is made at compile (link) time. So you need the
devenv.com/.exe approach to make it as seamless as possible.

If you can get around it, it's a major feature of .NET that needs much
advertising :-)
