We're currently using Perforce, which meets our needs well enough. It
doesn't seem to have the corruption issues of VSS and works well for
branching, rollback, cvs, and most of the things that we want a source
control system to do.

Our main objection to it is that it's too command-line oriented with a
fair number of features that can't be accessed from the GUI. And the IDE
integration is ghastly, although we suspect that's a failing of the VS
Source Control IDE more than Perforce.

What I would really like is a product that is .net savvy enough to
recognize VB/C# code as code instead of text and to recognize changes in
.sln, .vbproj, and .csproj files intelligently enough to recognize when
you've added/removed/renamed files since that's a big cause of source
control related problems in our shop.

(Before anyone suggests Vault, we tried it out and had numerous problems
that made it a non-contender.)

Subject: [ADVANCED-DOTNET] Source Control - What do you use, and why?

We are currently using Visual Source Safe 6.0 as our source control,
however it seems to be... lacking, to say the least. We are currently
migrating to VS2005, and while VSS gets the job done for basic CVS
needs, it seems quite cludgy in how it handles VS projects.

I've not had the opportunity to use any other source control packages,
so I was wondering if there is another one out there that the
programming community considers the de-facto standard. I am reading up
on Team Services to see if this accomplishes what we need in a better
way than VSS. We want to remain a mostly Microsoft shop to keep things
consistent, but we are open to alternatives if there is no other option.

Any suggestions and/or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg
