I use and like Ajax.NET Pro:
http://www.ajaxpro.info/

It does cross-browser really well and has been around for a long time. It
can even overcome instances where the browser has ActiveX turned off (i.e.
when the XmlHttpRequest object can't be instantiated in IE) by using hidden
frames.
