So this is a simple app with zero ActiveX, no 3rd party dependencies, no
registry settings required, no DSNs, no common files, no external DLLs
involved in P/Invoke, no use of old ADODB libraries?

When this type of thing happens ("it works with VS.NET installed but not
without") usually means something in my list above is missing that you need
to deploy with your app.

No - wish it was that. I wasn't clear in my post. This is occurring on
many client machines. It only works on machines that have VS2005
installed. All client machines have the framework 2.0

Any chance you're using any ActiveX controls or something else where
different machines might not have the appropriate setup prior to running
your application?
