Sorry for not being overly clear ... you got the right sequence of actions. Last time I imported forms was with VS 2003, so I guessed something was wrong with VS 2005. I also guessed it was not working because something could not compile but no, the project compile just fine with the imported (and not working) forms.
Copy/paste the controls, then the code, then the resources has solved my problem. Something must be wrong somewhere, but without helpful error message or log, it is a cat and mouse game. I will leave that as yet another mystery of life. Thanks to all who suggested workarounds.
