Yes, I remember that story! It's also a little known fact that the creation of the universe was gloriously named after him (shortly after the six day in which he wrote COM, but before the creation of XML). The phrase "the 'dawning' of time" was established in his honor. It turned out that the three letters of his first name (D.O.N.) had already been claimed by with the World Wild Folks, so until the legal disputes over his use of his name were resolved, poor Mr. Box was forced to spell his name "Dawn" (which results in a lot of confusion over his historic honor). During that period of time, Mr. Box also went by his shorthand nickname of "ON".
In the 70's, Mr. Box also parachuted out of an airplane with a large sum of money. You may have heard of the infamous "D.B. Cooper". There is no doubt that D.B. was simply a clue as to his true identity!! I heard somewhere that the C# operation of boxing and unboxing, like int i = 1; object o = i; // boxing int j = (int) o; // unboxing was named in honor of Don Box of Microsoft (one of the COM deities). I'll admit it sounds cool, but I've wondered whether it's actually an urban legend. Are there any official sources either denying or confirming this? =================================== This list is hosted by DevelopMentor. http://www.develop.com View archives and manage your subscription(s) at http://discuss.develop.com =================================== This list is hosted by DevelopMentor. http://www.develop.com View archives and manage your subscription(s) at http://discuss.develop.com =================================== This list is hosted by DevelopMentorĀ® http://www.develop.com View archives and manage your subscription(s) at http://discuss.develop.com
