JTable cellselection (closed bug #4196522)

JTable with cellselection true behaves funny - when adding a cell (even
in the same column) to the selection (ctrl + mouse click) the previously
selected cells are painted highlighted only on every second click. As
the bug report on this is closed ("not a bug" - which is nonsense, IMO)
does anybody know of a workaround?
