Totally agree. Its ultra configurable, but its not a component that the average IT developer can use 'off-the-shelf' imo. Most of Swing is like this. Its arguably over-engineered. Wonderful toolkit, but the average IT developer needs something easier. It'd be nice if there was either another toolkit parallel to Swing that was easier to use, or a nice convenience layer over Swing. ...changing the color of a row in a JTable should *not* be as difficult as it was. I understand the reasons for the complexity (MVC, "how do we know how to render your data?", yadda...yadda...), but still... And *where* the heck is the Swing Skins PLAF that was promised at a JavaOne several years ago?
