Cisco Buys Mikrotik Yes, you read it correctly, Cisco is buying MikroTik. Marc Cisco from RadioWire.net, has started to purchase RouterOS MikroTik based systems from Link Technologies, Inc. RadioWire operates a 2800+ Square Mile wireless network with over 1000+ customers, using 2.4, 3.65 and 5 GHz Frequencies. Mr. Cisco has been converting from Tranzeo, Cisco, Nomadix and NetEqualizer, and moving to a single common platform, MikroTik! Marc Cisco has removed his NetEqualizer and Cisco routers for PowerRouter 732s, doing bandwidth control and QoS across his entire network. He has changed many backhauls, and access points to MikroTik Hardware. Marc said that he really likes RouterOS and it is "Infinitely configurable, even on low end boards." "Due to tremendous growth in our area, Tranzeo's equipment began to create QOS issues for our end users. After testing 6 new ap's on our highest load towers, we will be switching to Mikrotik on all towers. Well, this is directly related to how you install it and use it. For example, a PowerSpot setup, 680mhz processor, can handle around 25-75 active users if you are also using it as the router that your customer data goes though. Yes, you can have ONE box, that performs hotspot functions, as well as radius authentication. Of course, this does limit your performance, if you use that same piece of hardware as JUST a radius server, you can support several hundred active sessions at once! Currently some of LTIs customers have PowerRouter 732 handling a User Manager database of over 7000 users, around 100-150 meg of traffic as well as an average of 2400-3500 active on-line users!
