On January 27, 2020, the Federal Communications Commission ("FCC") officially
kicked-off full commercial deployment in the Citizens Broadband Radio Service
("CBRS") shared spectrum by certifying the following four companies as Spectrum
Access System ("SAS") administrators: CommScope, Federated Wireless, Google and
Sony.
The FCC is fast-tracking commercial use of the CBRS band. Accordingly, now is
the time to prepare for the Priority Access License ("PAL") auction scheduled
for June 25, 2020, the secondary market, and other means of commercial access
to CBRS, including the unlicensed General Authorized Access ("GAA") tier.
Commercial use of the CBRS band has the potential to be quite lucrative for
WISPS and other service providers. A solid understanding of the FCC's rules &
policies is critical for all CBRS stakeholders.
