Hi folks, Software Freedom Day (SFD) is September 19th.
"Software Freedom Day is a global celebration and education of why transparent and sustainable technologies are now more important than ever. With over 200 teams in 60 countries participating, it is a fantastic event to get your schools and communities involved in. Go along to your local event or start your own event and meet a wide range of people, all working together to help ensure our freedoms are maintained by the technologies of tomorrow." You can find more information about SFD here: http://softwarefreedomday.org/ But why am I writing? I'd like to encourage each OSUG to have a special event on or about September 19th in celebration of Software Freedom Day. Maybe an OpenSolaris installfest. Maybe join up with another community and put on a special event. Maybe something completely different. It's up to you. I can help by sending CDs, mini-books and a few other goodies. I can also help with a bit of funding for refreshments or whatever. Here's what to do: - Write up a description of your event. What you plan to do. Where you plan to hold it. How many people you expect. How much funding you need. That sort of thing. Send it to me no later than Friday August 28th. (Note: I will be out of the office from August 17-28, so I will respond when I return.) - I'll review your write-up and get back to you when I return with how I can help. - Once you know for sure you are going to move ahead, if your event will be the first one in your area, register it here: http://cgi.softwarefreedomday.org/register.html. If there is already a team in your city or at your university, I would encourage you to get involved in that event rather than having a separate one. You can see the events already registered here: http://cgi.softwarefreedomday.org/2009/map.shtml. Sound good? Can't wait to see your ideas for celebrating Software Freedom Day! Thanks, T
