Quoting Javad Kouhi <[email protected]>:

Hi,

I'm new to OpenBSD and this is my first post in this list. I'm writing an
article about OpenBSD in the Persian Wikipedia. The article is here:

http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenBSD

My problem is that the history of Puffy (or OpenBSD's logo in general) is
not clear. There is some information about the old logo on the:

http://www.mckusick.com/beastie/shirts/openbsd.html

but it is not enough. I need some information such as:

* When Puffy became official logo of OpenBSD?
* Who created Puffy?
* What exactly Puffy is? A pufferfish or a porcupinefish?

I've been Googling for this information but found nothing. Also, as far as
I understood, there is no information about Puffy on the OpenBSD website.
Do you have a reference for this?

Also, As far as I understood, there are other obsolete logos such as:

http://www.openbsd.org/art/BSDCop_4bit.gif

Is there any information on these obsolete logos too?

And one another thing, the "Media Coverage" section on the website was
very helpful as it contains many third-party references. But it is not
updated since 2011, please consider updating it.

Thanks!

I think puffy is a blowfish and has some relationship to this information

I have OpenBSD CD's from 2.9 onwards and will look to see if there are any hints there on the CD covers/pamphlets, over the weekend.

HTH,
