And first of all, I'd like to thank you for it.

hm.. I think it was not quite Amelia people seemed to be objecting to,
but the fact that PERL MONGERS HIRED A BOOTH BABE. eek. :-)
The facts of the matter (IMO) are these:
a) The "cute blonde" thing, as Sarah so astutely discerned, was meant
to be slightly humorous.
b) The term "booth babe" has not been applied to Amelia in anything
other than jest until this thread (to my knowledge).
c) As has been pointed out, the "booth babe" that PM has taken on is a
pretty swell lady, regardless of her "bb" status.
and, most importantly,
d) As Ziggy mentioned, Perl Mongers is at a point where it must use
professionals to man the booth, not volunteers.
Yep, that's right. We need someone to do this. I'd rather have
Amelia than a lot of other people I've met in my life do this for us.
Trust me, if I'm using the term "booth babe", it's 'cause it's funny
(alliteration! ha!), not because our boothperson is nothing but.
It also occurs to me that we all seem to have forgotten that a lot of
people were calling our booth people "booth babes" when they were
lazy, bespectacled overweight geeks like myself. I know that *I've*
been referred to as such at one time or another - and I thought it was
pretty funny then, too.
Ok, that's what I have to say. I'm going to escape this now.
Oh and, elaine - thanks for mentioning that article in Business2 -
I've never actually seen the term "hyper-breasted" before... ;-)
