Indeed, but take my point. When asked, 10+ people piped up and said PHP,
not Perl and for a language that has always claimed CGI as its turf and
now is totally remaking itself, there may be some hard days ahead.
The question was simple, 'which should I learn, Perl or PHP3 or PHP4?' It
had nothing to do with mySQL or anything else and he received a number of
PHP book recommendations, etc. I thought it interesting.

I lurk and skim mostly so I don't know the whole context, but a few other
developer lists have been down on Perl lately so...who's to say what it
means but It doesn't appear to be a good thing.
