er, why not?  If some company benefits from it then they
get improved quality/features/whatever.  Example:  Informix
took over maint. of DBD::Informix.  What if the "project" 
were paying someone to improve a portion of DBI (stretching
it, but you see the point).  At the Perl conference one thing
that came out is that Bioinformatics is heavily dependent on 
Perl.  What if someone (Per?) came up with nice, solid, fast
thread[able] modules for Blast & co?  The firms doing genetics
research might be willing to find it.
