This has been discussed several times the past years on p5p. I'd urge
everyone who wants to discuss this to make oneself acquainted with 
the discussions on p5p - if only to learn incredible difficult it is
to get such a "blessed" toolkit in an open development environment as Perl.

When comparing Java with Perl, one should realize that *anyone* can add
things to Perl - all you need is working code and rough concensus among
peers. Quite different from Java, C++ or C. This has both advantages and
benefits.
