Thanks for the interesting reference!

    - I'd be curious to see what sort of performance changed we'd see
between Perl 5.003 which was tested and 5.6.1? I suspect that certain
operations have been substantially improved
    - I got the impression the author did not understand how Perl works -
"Awk and Perl are similar in style ... both are normally interpreted."

It would be useful to see more benchmark references to help understand the
exact nature of other languages strengths and weaknesses!
