You're correct, our port does make it easier.  

ActivePerl is distributed in pkgadd format on Solaris: 
http://downloads.ActiveState.com/ActivePerl/Solaris/5.6/ActivePerl-5.6.1
..633-sun4-solaris.gz 
You just need to 'gzip -d' it, then pkgadd it.

Alternatively, our commercially supported version of ActivePerl,
PerlDirect, can also be distributed in a pkgadd format.  PerlDirect is
specifically designed to meet the needs of enterprise customers.  More
