1) If you will setup DEFAULT_VERSION to v201109 and will not specify in service object constructor other version - library will use specified version: v201109.
2) How do you see that kind of realization? Google do not promise any backward compatibility, neither API or library. So this idea will not work. 3) Reading official change logs (both API and library) and documentation for them is the best way for you. Or not so good and fast way - change all references of old version number in your code for new version (I mean try to execute your old code in new API version), and debug all branches step by step.
