Hi,

I'm trying to figure out why Adwords ads show up when you Google some terms
but not others. In particular, I'm trying to determine if there are some
companies who have managed to stop other companies from running ads when
someone uses a keyword that coincides with a company's brand.

For example (in google.com.au), searching for 'energy matters' (prominent
company that runs no Adwords) yields no ad results, although 'solar energy
matters' does.

Googling 'Solar Choice' results in Adwords being displayed, although this
is also the name of a prominent company that does not run Adwords.

Essentially, my company would prefer there to be no Adwords on display when
someone uses the keyword that exactly matches our brand. Is there a way for
companies to have their brands registered in Adwords so that no other
companies can run ads using their brand as a keyword? So that even though
broader searches may results in results with Adwords, Googling the specific
brand will not.

Any ideas? Thanks!
