Hi David, we were facing the same challenge. As backing up accounts over the API doesn't seem feasible, we currently use a dedicated host which runs an AutoHotkey script every day to download and export a couple hundred accounts in the Adwords Editor. The script then uploads the .aea files to a cloud storage provider. While this solution isn't completely satisfactory, it generally runs reliably and only requires manual intervention if there's an update to the Adwords Editor.
