thanks for the suggestion - jvlcek mentioned that you guys use google hangouts. The format/tools are definitely up for dicussion/suggestions. I need to look into google hangout - especially as I understand we won't be able to use the intercall bridge indefinitely for the call - though if I understand correctly g hangouts limits the number of people with r/w on the audio stream (i.e. most participants can only listen?).
