PIKSI-Boston is a week-long philosophy summer program for undergraduatestudents 
from underrepresented groups. We invite philosophy PhD students fromthe Eastern 
Seaboard area to submit applications for the Teaching Fellowposition for the 
2017 installment of PIKSI-Boston:
 
Teaching fellow: The teaching fellow will be readingundergraduate applications 
in the months leading up to PIKSI-Boston, they willbe in charge of teaching one 
two-hour seminar during the week of PIKSI-Boston,they will be expected to be 
present for the whole week of PIKSI-Boston, helpwith the organization, and 
interact with the undergraduate fellows, and theywill be assigned roughly five 
undergraduate fellows that they will be expectedto mentor in the years after 
PIKSI-Boston until the undergraduate fellowsgraduate. The position pays $1,000 
for the whole duration, including thementoring that happens after the 2017 
PIKSI-Boston. We will fully coveraccommodation during the week of PIKSI (you 
will stay in a dorm with the PIKSIfellows, although of course not in the same 
rooms as them). We can cover up to$150 of travel costs.


To apply for the teachingfellow position, please send us your CV, along with 
your answers to thefollowing questions by December 31, 2016.
 
Do you     identify as underrepresented in philosophy? (Feel free to provide    
 details.)
 
What are the     most important things you focus on when you teach diverse 
undergraduates?     Feel free to describe your past experiences as a teacher.
 
What do you     think are the biggest challenges members of underrepresented 
groups face     in philosophy?
 
What would you     focus on when advising undergraduate students from 
underrepresented groups     about applying to graduate school?
 
The program     involves a multi-year mentoring element. How would you approach 
mentoring     the undergraduate fellows?
 
What do you     bring to PIKSI-Boston in terms of diversity? Have you 
participated in     similar efforts to promote diversity in philosophy (or 
academia in     general) in the past?
 
Each teaching     fellow will teach an afternoon seminar. Please list up to 
three specific     topics that you would like your two-hour seminar to be on.

 
You may also send along up totwo letters of recommendation that speak on your 
behalf regarding thesequestions. The letters should focus on your experience as 
a teacher and mentor,not on your research.
