Since we're comparing the a.e. of a football game with a those available from
the theater -- perhaps we should consider the broader context of public
sporting events.

Where else in history have these events been so popular -- so intensely
cultivated -- providing their a.e.'s for an entire society -- from top to
bottom?

Isn't this strictly a feature of the capitalist world ?  And doesn't it serve
to reaffirm -- by example -- the ideology of meritocracy --- those at the top,
as well as those at the bottom, deserve to be where they are?

Just like the New England Patriots deserved to be super-bowl champion ?
(or -- wait -- they lost didn't they? -- some other team must have deserved it
more)
