Medical specialists have determined that attention deficit disorder occurs due to the subject's inability to concentrate sufficiently to filter out the distracting ambient activity. So the therapy is to give a stimulant, not a depressant, to increase the mental activity so the subject can hold the concentration and succeed in filtering out the distractions.
