Cheerkep's "aesthetic experience" is like an orgasm -- it either happens -- or it doesn't.
But still -- there's all kinds of positive, enjoyable, invigorating, experiences consequent to commentary that aren't quite that exciting -- but still are valuable -- maybe because they feel so educational. I usually have no patience with docents (live or taped) -- I can figure stuff out on my own --- thank you very much. But last week -- I had a docent explain the narratives relevant to some stained glass windows in a synagogue in River Forest -- and I was very grateful for it. I guess because -- this time - I was more interested in those narratives than in how those windows (by William Gropper) looked to me.
