when you're listening on your own -- you'll hear things different.

Mentoring in taste is a much bigger deal in Japan than it is here  -- and as
one master chef/calligrapher/ceramicist (Kitaoji Rosanjin) put it:

never understand no matter how you tell them."

Chris: If I understand you correctly, someone might tell me something about
Beethoven, the times in which he lived, the structure of his music/whatever
and then I might say: "Oh, now I like the Pastoral Symphony". I can't imagine
this happening.
