I've stumbled across this of a Graham sculpture several time while surfing :

But about three weeks ago -- it happened again -- and I finally decided to add him to my list -- because -- because he does continue to arouse my curiosity. The American figure sculpture tradition has taken a real beating over the past 50 years -- a period that coincided exactly with his career - and he stuck it out -- jumping on no bandwagons other than his own. He even took a shot at liturgical sculpture -- and what could be more peripheral to the mainstream art world? Is his work " made entirely by hocus-pocus 3D Laser scanning of "real" subjects" ? I think Mando is dead wrong about that. Perhaps, like Bermini and Jeff Koons , he did hire other people to do his modeling -- I don't know -- but did he hire them to do the figure drawings on his website, too ? I feel that he is trying to make figures that are healthy, idealistic, beautiful, celebratory. (perhaps this is what Michael meant by "straightforward"?) My problem with him is that his work feels klutzy -- awkward -- ie. --- he just does not have a good feel for sculptural design.
